A year of decisions,
one pair of pants.
Every seam, every fabric swatch, every fitting session – here’s the full story of how Standard Redesigned came to be, starting with a problem almost every woman recognizes.
The problem
Women's Clothes Don't Have Pockets.
And when they do, they are unusable
Standard Redesigned is a small European clothing brand founded by one woman with an issue of finding proper pockets.
“Like many women, I was tired of the compromise. For years, women’s clothing has suffered from a frustrating lack of functional pockets. When pants actually had them, they were usually tiny, shallow, and utterly useless. After watching my phone slide onto the floor one too many times just from sitting down, I knew something had to change.
That is why I designed these pants. I threw out the traditional, flawed blueprints and built pockets that actually work: deep, secure, and strategically placed. They are engineered to hold your essentials, especially your phone -safely against your body, no matter if you are walking, sitting, or on the move. Functional fashion shouldn’t be a luxury; it should be the standard.”
-Zuzana, The founder of Standard Redesigned
Chapter 1 - The surveys
I asked 100+ women what was actually wrong with their pants.
Before designing the perfect pants, I ran two online surveys and heard from over 100 women of different ages, body types, jobs, and lifestyles. I asked what frustrated them about shopping for pants and what they felt was missing.
The same complaints kept coming up: pockets that were too small, waistbands that gapped, and sizing that didn’t accommodate women’s curves. Women wanted pants that were comfortable, practical, and flattering: without having to compromise on style.
These answers became the starting point for Standard Redesigned.
Chapter 2 - Design
10 + prototypes, 1+ year of development
Once the survey results helped define the features, the real design work began.
One issue kept coming up: waistbands that gap at the back and sizing that doesn’t account for women’s curves. We believe pants should adapt to real bodies and everyday life, not the other way around.
We developed over 10 prototypes, refining the fit and adjusting the sizing along the way. We tested them on real women with different body types to make sure our pants work for more than just one shape.
Chapter 3 - Production
Finding a manufacturer
Finding the right manufacturer was one of the biggest challenges in developing our pants.
We needed a partner who understood both knitted fabrics and tailored trouser construction: from slanted front pockets and welted back pockets to our adjustable waistband. Getting all these details right required a specific combination of skills and experience.
We started our search in Europe, working with two manufacturers in Poland and one in Portugal. Unfortunately, none had the expertise we needed to bring our design to life, the communication was lacking and the prototypes were either executed incorrectly or were of poor quality.
We eventually looked beyond the EU and found a small factory in China. After discussing every detail of our design together, we were happy with the communication, attention to detail, and willingness to understand our vision.
For us, finding the right partner wasn’t just about where our pants were made. It was about finding someone who understood how they needed to be made.
Our first design – The Original Pants are made in small women-run factory in China.
Chapter 4 - First collection
